Even though 13 and a half million dollars is a lot of money, not saving Martello Tower from falling apart because of water damage should not be an option. That, from Saint John historian Harold Wright.
He says Martello Tower has an incredible story to tell and is a vital piece of our history as recently as the Second World War when it served as a lookout for German U-Boats.
Wright says Martello Tower used to attact as many as 60 thousand visitors a year and the rebuilding is the first real work that has been done since it was built back in 1812.
