Young football players from across the province are in Winnipeg over the next week, in the hopes of winning a few games to bring home the Canada Cup.
Eight teams from seven provinces are vying for title in the under-18 national tackle football championship…..There are teams from New Brunswick, Alberta, Saskatchewan, two teams from Manitoba, because they are hosting it this year, Quebec Ontario and Nova Scotia.
Ernie Steeves son Aiden is there.
He was one of about 160 youth from high schools across the region who tried out, and made it, “There are forty guys on the team from right across the province. They’re a bunch of great guys. All of the teams are staying at the University of Winnipeg and they are playing most of their games where the Winnipeg Blue Bombers play their games, so they’re very excited about that.”
Steeves says this competition, could also help the players build a future in football, “There are a number of parents in the audience and then there are about 60 scouts from Universities in Canada.”
The event that kicks off tomorrow at Investors Group Field in Winnipeg.
