Canadian Army Engineers are heading to Latvia as part of NATO’s Operation Reassurance.
Approximately 50 members of the 4th Engineer Support Regiment will be building a 500 person camp facility.
That will serve as a base of operations for the Battle Group arriving later this year.
Operation Reassurance is the umbrella for military activities by the Canadian Armed Forces in support of NATO’s request for measures to promote security and stability in Central and Eastern Europe.
“The team that we are sending to Latvia has the critical role of building a home and work place for an operational Battle Group,” says Lieutenant-Colonel Chris Cotton, Commanding Officer, 4 Engineer Support Regiment. “Having the facilities required to stage multi-national operations is a key component to operational success and I am confident that our construction squadron will build a camp that will suit all of the Canadian-led Battle Group’s needs.”
4th ESR is the Canadian Army’s high readiness engineering unit that specializes in building and establishing facilities in support of operations both inside and outside Canada.
