Saint John is going to be looking for someone to run the city police.
Chief John Bates has announced his retirement after being in the Port City for just over two years.
Councillor Gerry Lowe confirms to CHSJ News he got the word yesterday when a message showed up on his iPad Lowe says Bates will be missed, saying any time he had any dealings with him he was a gentleman and he knows he was well like by members of his force.
Lowe says there is only speculation as to why Chief Bates is leaving and he didn’t want to comment on that.
Common Council passed a budget on Monday night that cut $1.25 million from the Police departments budget.
The Saint John Police Association has already announced it is closing three key units because of that and putting the members back out on patrol.
