A fight over the language policy for Ambulance New Brunswick is heading to the courts.
Health Minister Benoit Bourque announced Thursday the government would be looking for judicial review of an arbitrator’s decision saying paramedics should be hired on seniority basis rather than language ability.
Bourque said complying would prevent the government from meeting its obligations under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms as well as the provincial Official Languages Act.
That obligation is to ensure both francophones and anglophones have access to ambulance service of equal quality, in their preferred language.
As this is matter will be before the courts, the government says they will be making no further comments.
