The CEO of Ambulance New Brunswick says 2018 has been one of the highest recruiting years they have ever had.
Richard Losier says that’s good news, considering their biggest challenges are in recruitment and retention.
“We’ve hired 30 […] paramedics in January, we’ve just hired another 20 in June, and we’re predicting another 30 to 40 late fall,” says Losier.
He says this is progress, because “we started with 250 paramedics that weren’t available back ten years ago, now we’re approximately somewhere near 90.”
He continues by acknowledging the twin challenges of recruitment and retention are certainly difficult, but he’s committed to tackling those issues.
“We’re launching the campaigns, we’re putting groups in place, we’re getting our staff involved also, which is very important to me as the leader of this organization,” says Losier. “To get the front line people involved in building the plan moving forward.”
Losier says the January hires are already working on the ground, while the paramedics hired in June are still being trained.
