Liberal Leader Brian Gallant made a stop at a home in Moncton today, to make an announcement that will benefit some NB Power users, if his party is re-elected on September 24th.
“Many peoples power bills are going up faster than their wages. A re-elected Liberal government, to help families that are struggling to get ahead, will freeze power rates for all NB Power customers for four years. Adopting legislation to freeze power rates for small businesses and for households, apartments and other residential properties, means that consumers will no longer have to pay the cost of NB Power’s planned rate increases,” Gallant said.
The Liberal Leader added that with a current forecast for a two per cent rate increase per year by NB Power, this freeze will mean consumers will no longer have to pay the cost of planned rate increases which would have cost them more than $13 million extra each year over the next four years.
Gallant also committed to preventing NB Power from implementing any type of weather tax to help pay for extreme weather events.
