The province says it is willing to work with Saint John on a comprehensive review of Monday’s explosion at the Irving Oil refinery.
City council agreed this week to send a letter to Irving Oil and the Department of Public Safety calling for a “comprehensive after-event review” of the incident.
In an emailed statement to our newsroom, department spokesperson Alexandra Davis said Monday’s event fell under the responsibility of municipal authorities and the Saint John Emergency Measures Organization.
But Davis said the New Brunswick EMO would be pleased to collaborate with the city to help with a comprehensive review.
Mayor Don Darling also wants a review of emergency preparedness plans and the city’s communications plans.
New Brunswick’s Department of Environment is awaiting a report from Irving Oil about the incident.
