Progressive Conservative MLA Madeleine Dubé will not be running in September’s provincial election.
The MLA for Edmundston—Madawaska Centre made the announcement this morning in a statement.
Dubé was first elected in June 1999 to represent the riding of Edmundston and was re-elected four times.
The name of the riding changed twice during the period — to Edmundston—Saint-Basile in 2006 and then to Edmundston—Madawaska Centre in 2014.
Dubé was the first woman to represent Edmundston in the legislature and the first Francophone woman in the province’s history to win so many consecutive elections.
She’s held several portfolios during her 19-year career, including education, health, social development, and family and community services.
Dubé also become the first woman to hold the position of Opposition House Leader after the 2014 general election.
