More New Brunswick-made food and beverages are expected to arrive in schools and other public institutions over the coming months thanks to a new local food co-operative set up by the provincial government.
Founding member Marc Allain says the co-op will help bring in new members to figure out some of the logistics.
“There’s a lot of people growing produce and a lot of people who need produce. In between those two ends, there are a lot of potential partners who can help us solve these issues,” he notes.
At a cost of about $273,000, the province set up the co-operative to try and overcome barriers surrounding local food including issues such as storage, transportation and economies of scale.
