If you smoke a joint and then get behind the wheel and drive you should face the same consequences as drinking and driving.
That’s the hope of Saint John Police Chief John Bates, who says some police stations in the country are testing a new tool to help tell whether or not drivers are impaired by marijuana.
Police stations in Halifax, Toronto and Calgary are testing a new tool to help determine if a driver is impaired by marijuana.
Bates adds the science will have to be proven.
He questions why we should legalize another avenue to impair the ability of drivers to operate a vehicle, which also creates second-hand smoke for others.
Training will be needed for drug recognition experts and a course will be held here in Saint John over the next month or so.
