A Charlotte county businessman with a background in accounting would like to be the next mayor of St. Stephen.
He said he was approached him about running and after talking it over with his wife, he decided to throw his hat in the ring.
Vernon Card currently serves on the town of St. Stephen’s innovation and technology committee which looks for ways to improve the operation of the town.
“Basically the real reason was I have an aptitude for running businesses, an aptitude for serving the community and people wanted me to run so I decided to do so,” Card said.
He considers economic growth important and thinks more should be done for the Charlotte county hospital.
Card said he has released seven discussion papers on various topics with accompanying videos on his social media page.
“It is about looking at what we. Is it good? Does it need fixing? Fix it. Looking at our strengths. What can we do? We have a great position in regards to international trade. The border will open at some point in time but we have to plan for it,” Card said.
He believes those who have been around a while have a responsibility to help those who are just beginning.
Vernon Card is running against incumbent mayor Allan MacEachern who is reoffering in the election on May 10th.
All of the candidates for council in St. Stephen have been acclaimed.
